Black Diamonds Market 2025: A Celebration of Black Excellence, Culture & Community
Share
On February 22nd, 2025, the South Winnipeg Community Centre was transformed into a vibrant hub of culture, commerce, and connection during Afri-Inspire Concepts’ flagship event for Black History Month — the Black Diamonds Market. This event was more than just a market; it was a bold celebration of Black excellence, resilience, and entrepreneurial spirit.
With over 300 visitors in attendance, the market was a powerful showcase of Winnipeg's Black community's incredible diversity and talent. From handmade crafts and fashion to natural skincare, art, food, and cultural treasures, the space was bursting with creativity and pride. Vendors from various Black nations including Congo, Côte d'Ivoire, Nigeria, Ghana, Trinidad and Tobago, Benin Republic, South Africa, and Kenya proudly represented their heritage. They shared their unique offerings with an enthusiastic audience.
A Vibrant Marketplace with Global Roots
Each vendor booth told a story—not just of a business, but of culture, ancestry, and dreams. Shoppers were treated to a marketplace that felt like a global village, where Afrocentric prints, island flavors, handmade jewelry, and African-inspired home goods mingled in perfect harmony. Whether attendees came to shop, connect, or simply soak in the atmosphere, they left inspired and empowered.
The diversity of the vendors reflected the richness of the African and Caribbean diaspora in Manitoba. Many vendors expressed deep appreciation for the opportunity to share their culture, network with others, and access new markets. It was a reminder that economic empowerment and cultural celebration can beautifully go hand in hand.
Guests of Honor and Community Champions
The presence of distinguished guests elevated the event, underscoring its importance in the broader community. Nadia Thompson, Executive Director of Black History Manitoba, joined in the celebration and lent her support to the vibrant lineup of Black entrepreneurs. Also in attendance was Maggie Yeboah, Executive Director of the African Communities of Manitoba Inc. (ACOMI), a key figure in advocating for African diaspora communities across the province.
We were honored to welcome MLA for Fort Richmond, Honorable Jennifer Chen, who took time to engage with vendors and celebrate the role of small businesses in community development. Her attendance sent a powerful message about the growing recognition of Black-led initiatives in shaping a more inclusive Manitoba.
Other notable attendees included Akeem Adebisi, Co-founder of AjoPro and a leading tech voice in the Black community; the President of Royal Vending Services; and the Founder of Naija Market Day, all of whom continue to pave the way for Black entrepreneurship and innovation in Manitoba and beyond.
A Spirit of Unity and Empowerment
The atmosphere was electric with conversations, laughter, and meaningful connections. Cultural pride filled the air as traditional attire and contemporary Black fashion fused into a stunning display of style and identity. For many visitors, especially young attendees, it was an opportunity to see themselves reflected in leaders, creators, and business owners.
The Black Diamonds Market created a safe and empowering space for Black entrepreneurs to shine, share their journeys, and collaborate. It also served as a platform to educate the broader Winnipeg community on the importance of supporting Black-owned businesses and amplifying underrepresented voices.
Looking Ahead
As we reflect on the success of the 2025 Black Diamonds Market, one thing is clear: the demand for spaces that uplift and celebrate Black excellence is stronger than ever. Afri-Inspire Concepts is deeply committed to continuing this work, building bridges across communities, and providing a consistent platform for Black entrepreneurs to thrive.
This event would not have been possible without the dedication of every vendor, the enthusiasm of our visitors, the support of our partners, and the presence of our community leaders. We are incredibly thankful for each of you.
As we look ahead, we are already dreaming of ways to make the next Black Diamonds Market even bigger and better. More partnerships, more vendors, more connections — because together, we are unstoppable.
